Use of evidence-based treatment guidelines support initiation and maintenance of drug treatments. However, many receive medication that is no longer needed and deprescribing of wellintentioned medication may be relevant, for instance, due to unacceptable side effects, lack of effect or the like. Deprescribing may be difficult and until recently, no evidence-based deprescribing guidelines have been available. Evidence-based deprescribing guidelines have now been developed in Canada and Australia as the first in the world.
